    Checking in 8/22/2011

    ::waving::

    I'm still trying to get used to the new layout, find old friends, see how peeps are doing, etc. We've been out of town, gearing up for another year of home schooling and even rushed our 7 year old to the ER while on vacation last week for suspected meningitis! Fortunately it was just a virus, but when his fever spiked at 104.7 and he complained of a headache and neck pain we threw him in the car and drove 50 minutes to the nearest ER. I can't tell you how scary that was, especially considering that it was meningitis and a lumbar puncture that started our families' leaky journey on September 2, 2006! God is faithful to answer our prayers and my son avoided the LP and was given a cherry popsicle instead! A 'popsy' a day keeps the doctor away!

    So how's everyone? What's current/new/changed?

    Laura ---
    So nice to see a friendly name - I'm totally confused by this new layout, and hope to get a handle on it soon!
    Glad to hear your little guy is fine. I can imagine the panic with a fever that high, and a family history such as yours. What a nightmare!
    I'll be starting another thread on my situation, but wanted to say hi.

        Dear Laura,

        That was quite a scare you had. A 104.7 fever is very high. Last month one of our girls, who is 24, spent a few days in the hospital with a high fever and stomach pains. Eventually, the docs determined it was some kind of virus. She was released after a few days and a few days later back to normal. We were all relieved.

        I am visiting NC in September. I have an appointment with Dr. Gray. She is going to do a CT Myelo and a blood patch. I am driving down with my son and will be staying at a local hotel for several days after the procedure for bed rest, monitoring etc.

        Did you feel the earthquake yesterday? We did. Our house shook. Hopefully, no one was having a procedure done with a needle in the spine during the quake.
