    Farewell to Howie

I am very very sorry that BrainTalk's long-time member and participant on the MS board, Howie (AKA Howard), has left this world.

He will be greatly missed here.

He was here almost daily since about 2001, maybe even before then. For 22 years some of us have been hearing from Howie, chatting with Howie. Some of us have talked to him on the phone. He had a soft Southern accent in case you didn't have a chance to talk to him.

He loved working on cars, and his beloved Karmann Ghia named Pinky was probably his most cherished possession.

He struggled with MS every day but mainly he got along without help. He was still driving when last I heard from him (though not driving the Karmann Ghia).

I can only hope that his one remaining cat, Sam, will be cared for as I'm sure that's what he would have wanted. He was a devoted caretaker of many previous cats, including Seven and T'pol. At one time he even had a pet tarantula.

He must have communicated with many many people with MS over the years. I can't recall any time when he posted anything insulting or hurtful to anyone. His support and his humor helped to make this place special.

I hope he's in a better world, one without MS, a world where he can race around in a vehicle and be surrounded by cats looking out for him.

SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) since December 2020.

How sad, he was a staple here. Always informative and kind. RIP Howie. You are free.

      Thank you, Chris.

I think all who knew Howie will miss him terribly. I think we are all so use to cracking jokes with him that it is going to leave a void that cannot be filled.

I hope Howie is somewhere flying around in a pink Karmann Ghia with no more worries or even thoughts of MS. Maybe he will have a couple of cats in the car with him.

Howie was always kind and I never heard him speak in a harsh manner to anyone.

My prayer for Howie is that at long last he is at peace, but that will not fill the void that will be on the MS board for a long time to come.

        Rest in peace Howie!
