Thread: BTC data questions

    Question BTC data questions

I am wondering why some member's 'last visit' reports "N/A" instead of a date? My best guess is that the Date/Time counter on their 'home' computer is improperly set . . . but this would mean that the source of the last visit time/date is the member's computer . . . which doesn't make much sense, why not use the one on the computer BTC is operating from?

agate, SalpalSally, Joy and houghchrst are four members who's last visit date shows up as "N/A" rather than a date.

    Hello TrimTab!

Everyone who is a member here has the option to view the forums and be "Invisible" when they choose to view and post. This is their privacy choice, made sometimes so noone idly "checks-up" on them or for other reasons.

That might be why you see N/A instead of a date.

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people whose posts you don't like.

    Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

Mod #7 is correct, people that choose to be invisible will have a n/a instead of a last visit date.
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

Maybe you are right, but I guess I have my doubts because SalpalSally does show in the "members online list," I am not sure of the others, but I think I have seen some of them also. Of course she could be turning that on and off again.

The reason I question the issue, however, is the member list will not present based on 'last visit' order (it seems to produce a computer error, which I thought to be due to the fact that it cannot figure out if a particular date is greater than or less than 'N/A') . . . it will present based on 'number of posts' order but I tend to be more interested in 'last visit' order.

I am interested in seeing who may be returning, even if they do not post.

I've semi-fixed the database error. Now when sorting by last visit you won't get an error, but you won't be able to sort by ascending or descending. This will require a little more time than I had to adjust, but it will get fixed properly :)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention :)

Ok this issue has been fixed :) The old version called an obsolete field in the memberlist. So I had to change the code so it called the new field.

Mike, it does work better, but there is still some strangeness about it . . . the dates the list present under last visit are not necessarily in order . . . N/A does continue to appear on some member's entry (but they are not all together - they might be somewhat accurate in their relative rank, however). This leads me to believe the order the list is sorted on is different from the dates presented in the list. A possible explanation is the list order is determined by the moment the person last logged off, but the information presented is the most recent log on. Maybe its also influenced by different time zones.

At the time of this post, I am presented in the member list at position forty-eight and with approximately correct time and date but the forum home page shows only five members here at this moment . . . so I would expect my entry to be among the top five or so.

Also, I noticed that many of the forums now have descriptions associated with their disease names and I was wondering what the source of those descriptions are?

It's working just fine :) I haven't looked to see what it is exactly, but there is a delay in the sorting by "lastvisit", most likely it gets updated only once a day during one of the automated scripts.

Descriptions are being done by David H.

Another minor 'glitch' is the "Ten most recent threads" <> ten most recent 'new posts' . . . perhaps for the same reason . . . the list is updated less frequently than presented, nevertheless the presented list includes the most recent data, which explains why its may not appear in exact order . . . NEW QUESTION . . .

If you make a post that you do not want to have appear in the "Ten most recent threads" at all, is there a way for members to suppress their own posts from that list?
