Thread: question regarding Banzel

  1. #1

    Default question regarding Banzel

Our son's Banzel dosage has been dropped to 5(400mg) tablets per day. The doctor said that we can split one of the tablets in half to equalize the dosage at 2 1/2 in am and 2 1/2 in pm. Can I prepare a weeks supply of the split tablet and will it be stable or should I split the tablet daily. Has anyone had this experience with the Banzel medication pill splitting?
    Thank you,

    to BT, oldhats!

i read that banzel tablets are film coated. i think if you split them ahead of time, there might be some loss of strength from humidity and i know it's important to have the right strength of pills for epilepsy.

i haven't had any experience splitting banzel, but i have with other medications. it's easier if they are scored and banzel is. i find it easy to split pills in half with my fingers. just put your thumbs firmly on both sides of the score line and rest the pill between the knuckles your next fingers. quickly and firmly push up with the fingers underneath the pill while pressing with your thumbs and it should break on the score line. of course, pill splitters are easy to use, also .

    ((((((oldhats)))))) ~

I have no experience with Banzel, but we split our son's Phenobarbitol every other day for his morning dose. We don't have a need to split them for a week. The most qualified person to answer your question would be the pharmacist, who dispenses your son's Banzel. That's the first person I would call.

Looking forward to getting to know you and your son. Hope you'll join in on our discussions!
