    Hi funnylegs,

I can relate to a lot on this blog over the yrs. but I have proven that I can work and live a normal everyday life to many people. I won't let my epilepsy stop me and take my word if I get put down by someone
I speak up and let them know how people who have epilepsy can live a normal everyday life. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You!

"Epilepsy is being expected to be grateful when people almost treat you as a real person.
Epilepsy is knowing they don't think you are a real person.
Epilepsy is always hearing “you are an extreme minority so you don't matter”."

    How difficult - how true.

I tried to post a simple "Well said!" response, but my post hung.

I have copied and printed the blog entry and intend to show it to some of my doctor friends.

There is 1 line that confuses me:

Epilepsy is people thinking you are being too cautious by avoiding people known to be ableist.

    EDIT:
    ahh... got it now!

Ableist (n.) - One who practices discrimination or prejudice against people with disabilities, especially physical disabilities.

Guess I've gotta' get back to my old "word of the day" discipline!

The term "ableist" confused me too when I started becoming more involved with disability rights. In fact just about every term these disability rights activists use I have to google the first time I see it lol.
But yes it means discrimination against mainly physically disabled. I'v also seen some activists also use it to mean non-acceptance of a disability by the person who is disabled.
