Kat, sorry about the family's bad news but I hope liver cancer is easy to treat than lung cancer. I know we can live with just part of our liver so there is an option to remove the cancerous part without any major issues as a result. It has to be hard to get through the treatment and have to face it again. I hope you and SO can enjoy Christmas together. It was nice of him to take over the sweeping for you.

It was a sleepy day for me after not sleeping last night. I hope being up late this evening I will be able to get back to sleep later on. It di get the floor taped off so we can paint the trip tomorrow and get that done before Christmas. My mom and our kids will be here for Christmas dinner on Saturday and then Penny and I will do Christmas Sunday. I need to cook the chicken today so I can pull the meat off and use the broth for the dumplings on Saturday.

Thank you Mark for your concern. What I don't understand is why don't the docs take a biopsy now!! to find out if it's mets (old cancer broken off from original place) or a new cancer, which might make his treatment different. Steve/Kim I don't think ask questions, don't google for info, just go by what the doc says. Depending on what that tumor is, if different from original, he might not have to go thru all the treatments again. There are special radiation treatments were you zone in very carefully just on the tumor; it's so good you never touch surrounding good tissue/kill heathy tissue. I hate to see him go through all that crap again; this time last year (right after NewYrs) was the first time we got bad news he had colon cancer. And he was just getting so healthy looking again...........just please, everyone, keeping praying for this family; Steve, Kim, Angela 12, Renee 8, Sam 2. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas......miracles do happen.....lots of us are looking for one
Enjoy your dinners, Mark, they sound delish esp. those dumplings which I just love. What time are you eating????<G> kat

Kat, I will keep them in my prayers and it is best to ask our doctors questions about our treatments. Dinner will be a little before noon as Emery and the kids have another family Christmas in the evening. I plan on stuffing them so much they can't eat after leaving our place.

It has been a day to get some things done. I got the chicken boiled, deboned, and filtered the broth for the dumplings tomorrow. Penny is on my case because she is stressing but it happens every year so it is normal. I have to get up early in the morning to get the turkey and ham cooking. I will get a break/nap then it will be time to get the potatoes and dinner rolls done. It will be turkey and ham sandwiches for a while afterwards.

I just popped in to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas, I just couldn't let it go by without that! You've all been so supportive over the years (I've forgotten how many but like Mark I remember the original forums!). I'm sorry I've been MIA a lot lately, lots of things going on. Recently it's mostly been cleaning and cooking, lol! But you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I haven't time to catch up on posts but I did see Kat's post about Steve, I'm so sorry dear. Of course I will keep him in my prayers.

              Merry Christmas Melanie.

Merry Christmas to everyone here. I hope all have a great holiday time this week and the new year brings better life for all of us.

Our Christmas dinner was a big hit as everyone had a good time talking and catching up. Emery was a treat and laughing so much. Despite having a hard time staying awake it was nice to have everyone relaxed and having a good time. Emery was keeping all of us entertained with her playing and wanting to be chased and startled.

                MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL!!!!
Glad everything worked well for your meal, Mark; Sounds like Emery was highlight of the day

Procedures have changed as to what they are doing to Steve. Prior to learning this I even wrote that they had this new technique out. Found out they are using it, not using what I first wrote.....and other stuff.
                Write more some other day.

Hope all had great holiday; SO got call from eldest son in PA; great to hear the two talking on speaker.

                Take care all, hugs, kat

Kat, glad things may be better with Steve. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas even if the family couldn't make it this year.

Didn't take long for Penny to want the tree down, we took it down this afternoon. At least the living room has all the furniture back in place. Today was a day to relax during the morning and do some clean up this afternoon. This evening the three of us watched the Discovery Channel's show the Brain that looks at illusions and how our brain perceives them. There were some interesting things brought up and we enjoyed the show.

Hi to All My Spiney Friends!!!
Sorry I have been such an absent member. I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off. No real down time in a while. I took on 2 more cleaning jobs. One is for my mom which will be once a month and the other is every week right now. It wont be as much when the ladies hand heals. She had to have surgery from a spider bite & is raising 4 grandkids, so she needs the help. Will most likely go to every other week in a few weeks. Plus all the shopping for the holidays and it took me 9 hours to wrap all the presents! I went way over board!! I forgot half of what i had by the time I wrapped...lol. Well the kids didnt mind mom's forgetfulness with all those presents! Im ashamed at the size piles they had. Its all good though. Christmas was a great day and I love it when its about the kids. Taigan was so cute about Santa. She even wrote him a cute card and drew a pic of him in it. Seeing it through the eyes of a child makes it all the more special to me!!

Mark sounds like you all had a wonderful day! Have to LOL about Penny wanting the tree down. I am right there with her. I love it up for about a week and thats all i can handle. its like clutter to me and I start stressing about it. Dinner sounded yummy. We just did simple this year. MIL made a meat lasgna and I made a cheese one. Huge salad and garlic bread and it turned out great. We usually do prime rib but its just so much. This was perfect.

Kat so sorry to hear about your SIL :( I will keep them in my prayers! Such awful news. So did anyone end up coming to your house for xmas day? How have you been? I only read this page and the page before this one so I am not caught up at all.

Mel how was your holiday with the boys? Hope all is well!

Well had a small accident tonight. Actually Billy did with my van. We were all in the van when a deer shot out and smashed my front end. He slammed on the brakes but it was too late. Not sure if the deer was ok or not. It took off. Hit his rear end area. I feel so bad. Hate to hit any animal. Bout 2 hours after the accident the back of my head started throbbing and is now killing me into my left shoulder. Since fusion isnt complete, I wonder if I shouldnt get an xray to make sure nothing moved. I have no plating at this level. Took a flexeril and pain meds and hope it starts working soon. Not in the mood to have to deal with appraisals, rental car and insurance company...oh what fun!! Think the van is somewhat drivable. Hood is pushed up about 7 inches and grill is cracked. Headlight is smashed up, no glass but bulb is still working. No fluids leaked so i may go straight to my garage in the morning to see if it is ok to drive around. Just such a nightmare. I have no time to deal with this.

Ok I need to get some rest. Head is killing me and I am beat. I will check in soon!! Miss u all! Happy Holidays!!!!

You've been busy Brigitte, and all those presents; you must've started your shopping very early. Just my 2cents but I'd get that neck checked out. No fooling around with things like that hon. Glad you had a wonderful Christmas. Do you clean houses for a living? I'd tell you to roam on over this direction :) Noone was here for xmas. We love chicken so picked that up, forgot to stop order on broasted spuds :(, did get a little slaw and stollen. SO deboned the chicken so it's ready to go for any recipe, which starts tonight as it was a ton of bird<G> We also got a huge precut but on the bone ham, sliced/pkg that up.....meat up the kazoo which is great. Perhaps use some of it to make casseroles for Kim's family after he gets home from hospital. Pain's been high last couple days; at first thought from where hit hip couple of times....now entire hurt from waist down; could be fibro too? But did lots of cleaning last week, catching up to me. Thanks for asking hon.

When we put up a tree, it takes so much work to to do it we didn't take it down until New Yrs.

Here a note that my daughter wrote re: status for Steve.......so glad they are going this way; prior it was usual chemo, rads, surgery.....and I knew there was this other protocol I mentioned to Kim....that's the way they are going, luckily they also switched from a regular cancer doc to a specialist of the liver.

.......From what we are told. Steve doesn't have liver cancer it is rectal cancer that traveled to the liver. It was probably there from the start but too small for the cat scan to detect. When given chemo it went dormant. When off of chemo it started to grow.
Plans have changed. We talked with a liver surgeon/oncology specialist yesterday at 1PM at Froedtert. He is having surgery on Jan 6 and will be in for 5 days after. They are going to cut the "marble" out and also ultrasound the liver for any more spots. If they find more spots, at that time, they will put a needle in them and burn them. They are also taking his gall bladder. 4-6 weeks off and then chemo after that. Best plan for him.
Also, the part of the liver that is cut out will not grow back. The left overs will get bigger...........

We will get to their house after he's home (discussion in progress) or this week? to wish him well; give the kids their presents.....if we wait til towards end of month it's Angela's birthday...so they'd get xmas and her birthday present all in one.

Mark, love the Discovery Channel; I think there are a few more Discover Channels too, Western, animal etc.

I was sleeping yesterday so SO did all the blacks in the washing.....so nice of him. Just had to fluff, they're done. 2 loads to go. Everyone have a good day!!! hugs, kat

Brigitte, I hope your neck and head are feeling better. I would give it a couple of days to calm down and if it is still bothering you please get it checked out. We have a lot of deer accidents in our neck of the woods. We teach the kids if they see one deer to brake because there will be a couple more right behind it. I am glad no one, hope you're not, was seriously hurt as a result of the accident. Woman, I get tired just reading all you are doing each day. I hope you can keep up with your pace without hurting your spine too much. It sounds like you had a wonderful time at Christmas.

Kat, glad to hear the good news about Steve. Our livers can operate just fine with sections cut away. The big issue will be to find no more cancer in his body. Like you I prefer to keep our tree up until after New Years but since Penny has to do all the work now, or the most part anyway, we get it down when she wants. It was a nice surprise to wake up and have the laundry done. I often wake up to find Penny has it done with me just folding my clothes to put away. Often though I do a lot of the laundry when I can.

Today was a sleepy day but at least I didn't spend all day sleeping. I didn't get much done though. Our doorbell rang this morning and I got up to find UPS had delivered the final papers of our new mortgages so that is done but the biggest news was seeing our first snow of the year. It didn't last as it melted since the ground was too warm. it sure was brisk this afternoon and I am glad I wasn't out for very long.

                          Hi Mark & Kat :)
Hope your enjoying your day? Mark happy you had the snow & we didnt. That halloween snowstorm was enough for me. Great job on the refinancing! I have to do it here also. Much better rates now!

Kat your poor SIL. Hope this dr is awesome & gets everything the 1st time. He will be in our prayers! Hopefulh SO & you will get to see the grandkids soon, so they can play wigh their presents!!!!

We drove car to body shop & its not drivable. Frame is bent, squeezing radiator hose, causing it to leak. Looks like they will total it out. Damage far exceeds the value of it. It sucks & is such a pain. Need new hood, grill, radiator, ac compressor, headlight kit, bumper, hood latch & so much more. So I was able to get the rental covered. That is a blessing till we see what we will do.

I did go to pcp as still having head, neck & shoulder pain. Whole spine is rebelling! He gave me toradol for headache to go with other meds. Tried some aleve but it did nothing. Going for xray tomorrow to check fusion. Wil update then. Ofto sleep for noe.....soooo tired!!! Hope your both resting well! Night!!!

Brigitte, that deer did a number on your van. So many times the damage doesn't look too bad and they total it out any more. The good news is they can straighten out the bent frame any more so you may decide to repair the van. It depends on how much you like the van and how much money insurance gives you for a new one, at least new to you. You will be busy with decisions and shopping before this is over. I hope your back calms down as it went through a real shock so soon after surgery. I hope the wreck didn't do anything to the fusion site. The best part of the re-mortgage is we don't have a house payment until Feb. That will help with the Christmas bills coming in.

Not much going on this evening other than doing a little bit of work in my wood shop. I finally have it looking the way I want it to look but I still have a good amount of wood to store away in it. I have to get the rack set up better to handle all the scrap wood. I guess I will have to do some projects and get the wood out of our house or at least out of the shop.

I noticed several mentioned trouble sleeping. I had a week with no sleep when I got off the pain meds. My youngest son suggested taking Melatonin before I went to sleep. It is a natural occurring chemical in the body, but as we age we have less available and that can cause sleep disorders. It helps us re-establish our normal sleep pattern or adjust one so we can sleep. It works with your body naturally and as you turn out the light it kicks in and helps you fall to sleep. It is not a drug or sleeping pill just a naturally occurring chemical in the body.

I am highly ADHD so getting to sleep can be a challenge for me anyway. I usually lay in bed, watch a bit of tv. My light is on the nightstand. After I get comfortable and begin to calm down I will shut off the light and take a Melatonin. In a matter of minutes I just fall to sleep and sleep well through the night. I don't feel groggy or tired or unable to get fully awakened in the morning. I just feel like I've been to sleep like I should. It has allowed me to sleep when I want and how I want and it is wonderful.

The cost is very little. I think we paid about 3.50 for 200 tablets. That's 200 nights sleep for near nothing. If sleep is an issue for you, you may wish to try it and see how it works for you.

Mark, you must've gotten the little snow from what we got?, just a couple inches. Tomorrow starts with more snow, saying a couple inches depending where you live, same for Friday. SO watches weather each a.m. before work so he knows should he take car/4WD trk. Today he lucked out with car. Sure saves on MPG's. Gas just went up, mind you literally overnight, .30 a gallon!!!. Lots of clouds today, gets any darker the lights are going on; finding it helps me quite a bit.

Joe, your idea sounds good and very glad it's working for you. Even nicer it's an OTC product. Have you tried it Mark? Think I might give it a whirl. Slept about 3 hrs last night, not much night before, I don't think. Takes me all day to recall what I ate yesterday. Been drinking Ensure w/meds so I don't choke so much; was working great until yesterday; just too thick.....but who's to know until you try it..what beverage is going to work that day. Just be near a sink :)

Brigitte, it's funny how a garage can look at a vehicle, looks like not much damage, and finds all kinds of stuff under the hood......no, it's not funny. Now the decision if it's 'totaled' or not. How old is it? Lots of miles on it? Feeling the way you get around it does<G> Are you feeling any better? Went back and read that you're not, so sorry to read that hon. Hope when you get xrays you get your neck and spine xrayed.......you never know what might have been damaged further down, don't take chances hon.

Glad re-mortgages went well. I know nothing about things like that but sounds like interest rates are better; that's all I learned from what you said, Mark/Brigitte.

Hope everyone's pain is better; do hope you are feeling better very soon. I also wish to rid myself of this pain. My pain meds are a written script which I now have them mail to me as we don't get to town that often. (Then after I call, SO says he's going to be in that town.....matter he just doesn't want to get out of car. No matter what it's for, if there's a drive-thru, that's his kinda place)

My pain's been so high can't afford to run out with NewYrs in few days, plus rest of meds need refilling too.....along with kitty's meds. Everything at once. Somehow/where she cut herself under her eye....no blood so she must've done it overnight. I'm so careful that all is covered up on counter/bar so perhaps she was downstairs. It's healing well, watching it closely for infection. So far, so good. I can't think of anything in house to put on it, just let it heal on it's own.

Maybe this chair isn't helping my pain. SO never used to use this puter; now he's here more, as I mentioned he's a Big Man, the seat has changed configuration; time to sit on pillow, see if that helps; have postit on puter to sit up straight which also helps if I remember to do it.<G>

Thank you for all your prayers, love, and concern for Steve (SIL)....and his family. I pray this procedure will be the end of it; they are such a great family, do mean family. Do almost everything together except when Steve is in hunting mode :)
Kim's a great mom, full time job, raising 3 kids.....summer, washes clothes and hangs them out while Steve watches Sam which I'm sure Angela, oldest does now........unbelievable how much she put in/gets out of a day, Steve too, 2 jobs. Construction in family business, driving truck for cheese firm..........God, please look down on them, keep this family together for many, many years to come......if it be your will.........

love, hugs, good health to all, kat :)
