Okay so now I am going to ask is Herman just the universal basic sourdough starter and what you add to it is what determines the type of bread?

I see where some are adding more sugar or whatever but I am definitely a savory not sweet person.

Christina, do I capture Herman or the yeast flying about? If its the yeast flying by then it has to be green! AS IN POLLEN!! Everything her is green, I can't air out the house, my asthma is bad already. you can hear me breathing all over the house.
I stay worn out, just from breathing. After 3 + months the Dr. assistant decided to tell me what the word was on my exrays. It was sort of to the upper side of my ribs. So, my scolisis is worse, (I already knew that)! The way I am bending has made my ostro-porosis worse, already knew that too and it hurts like heck.
The biggie, I didn't already know this. I have some calcium
building up in the Arota (?). Now what am I supposed to do with this? She suggested I go to my family DR. and maybe get something for my colesterol (?) !! My family Dr. does complete blood panel every 3 or 4 months. The last one my colesterol was great, the good, bad and the ugly! Dr. was very proud of me!!

So Pati, you guessed it, the little girl pretending to be a DR. wanted me to take more little pills to make it all better. I said, no thanks. Now the panic attacks are at an all time high, The pain is at an all time high, my hip is killing me. that was what my mama called it when she would have to go get shots.((sycotic)) I am my mama's daughter!

now, I used to have a sourdough starter to keep for pancakes when the kids were home. Ken brought this into our marriage. I guess in olden days the bride had to bring so much riches into a marriage, so both of us were poor as Jobs chirch mice. He brought the sourdough starter and I brought the big black skillet! He got his in Boston and kept it in Norfolk Va. until he got out of the Navy. I think I went to hospital and somehow we let it die.

I also had a brandied appricot starter. I make them every year and in between to keep it going. One Christmas my ex-SIL came over and we ate a whole pint jar of appricots with a big pan of hot buttermilk biscuits. We sat there and talk and laughed about MY EX family and they were still her family. She is on FaceBook and keeps writting me wanting me to come see her. She has moved into a condo and I don't think its handi-capped friendly. Sorry, got off topic there.

I've been looking up prices for grandsons stuff so he don't just give away a piece of Fenton Glass or some such thing. When he finds one he thinks I will like he brings it to me.

I'm glad its getting warmer outside too. If I can just remember to wear my cloth dust mask I'll be ok. The dogwood trees across the street in front of the NH are all bloomed, they are beautiful. I hope the people that live there are enjoying them as much as I am just looking out my kitchen and dinning room windows.

Well now that I've written a book full of mistakes I'll stop. I hope each and everyone of you will enjoy the warm sun shine and the pretty flowers blooming.

    I love you all, Jo

    Cool Catchin' Up

    Hi Everybody!

Long time no write. Many apologies, but I've been reading everyboy's news thru the email notifications. I would like to note that BT has more people whose name begins with "J" than anyplace I've ever been -- it must be contagious! My brain is set on FOG today, so I'll just say that it sounds like most of you are doing pretty well, & I'm so glad to hear that. Along with all the sunny Spring news.

I totally wore myself out yesterday by standing around at TJ Maxx staring at black purses for dressy events coming up. I swear my brain just went out to lunch & forgot to come back, even tho' I knew I was making myself too tired by just standing still. So I drove home thru the burning pain around sunset without any actual lunch so that maybe my bleary eyes could see most of the way before dark.

But today I'm finding some good luck! Yay! I went back to my previous GP [I tried a new one for the past 2-3 months] and was finally able to get some pain meds, thank the goddesses. She also wrote for a long list of blood tests, which I think are overdue, along with some I've never had before, like for stomach ulcers. Then I had stumbled on a state-by-state internet list of docs who treat CFS, and I called their office this afternoon and got a Live Person [halleluiah!] She found me an appointment for next week and I'm beside myself I'm so shocked and happy! Please keep your fingers and toes crossed that this doc knows what he's doing and keeps up with the latest everything CFS. It has been almost four years since I've seen a specialist who is CFS-literate, so this is a mighty big deal.

All this talk of bread is making me crave it. Now I want to try it. I never had luck with bread making. The dough just doesn't want to raise.

Dee, so glad that the court thing is over with and you can move on.

Sher, I'll pray that it's the right doctor for you.

I'm still waiting for my doctor to call me back. He best hurry because I'll be leaving soon for New Orleans. Talking about new orleans, I hope the storms are over with by saturday. We stop saturday in AK for a couple of days.

Spring!!!! We are still in winter around here. I hope that I don't have any flowers showing up. It will be interesting to see what plants make it with this crazy weather. Cold one day and then the next day it's warm. Well warm for us.
    Take care,
    Dawn

good to see so many posts!

Dee,it's a full moon, might explain your father's talking so much-glad it was a good visit!

Joy,prayers for your friend. she might want to find a good lawyer? and wondering how Donna is doing? if your DH is taking Metforim for diabetes he needs to be taking B12! Metroim deletes B12 from the body. I've been taking mine faithfully again & my awful hair loss has improved-along with depression. I take a special kind so if interested I will provide more info.

Sher, good luck with the new doc!

Chris,I knew you would have a fibro flare. painting is hard on the body. hope you will get that sunny yellow kitchen someday. as for the skinny cupboards? bet they are solid wood? might consider replacing the uppers with open shelving, just right size for plates.

Jo,curious what color Fenton you collect? I thought GS was selling @ flea market? maybe he could trade some of your stuff for Fenton? as for the calcium thing.....every doc I've seen over the years has tried to get me on Lipitor. I refuse to even pay for the cholesterol blood test since refuse to ever take any satin! my dad can barely walk now that he's back on that stuff but it's his choice.

I know I didn't recall everyone & apologize. just had to get outside a wee bit since this is our BEST weather day in ages. mid 50's. how I envy anyone in the 60's right now!

my son just got back from CA. it was 85 the first place they went. last 2 days he was freezing in a snow resort. (yes I asked why he didn't just buy a coat!) he only has today off so guess I won't be seeing him for awhile. he's had enough of CA now. far cry from the island he lives on.

Sher, I do apologize for my name starting with a J. My mama gave me the name Julia and Mr. Jo gave me the name Jo. J for the first letter of my name and the o comes from the first letter of Mr. Jo's last name, hence Jo.

Now I'm happy you finally found a Dr. you like and can trust. they are hard to find. I felt like crying with you for your loving Dr. that you lost. I'm so sorry.

My shrink did that to me. I had an appointment just after Christmas that year and I got a cold letter from his sec. saying he wouldn't be seeing me anymore. I found out from another Dr. that he had died! I was so sad because he was the kind of shrink that would sit and talk to me for 45 min to an hour or more and never charged a penny more. He was my friend first, then my DR. I dearly loved him. He wasn't young, but now that I'm older than dirt I think he was pretty dogone young!

I'm not crazy about the one I go to now. He gives me 10 min. and writes me 3 scripts and I see him every 2 to 3 months!! If I need to talk I have to go to a councelor or something, but he/she has to be in/network!

anyway, You take care and I hope your blood test all come back perfect and your eyes will keep healing. Fast would be better. ((((Sher))))

    Dawn,
my oldest son is being offered a very nice job up your way and I don't want him to move! If he does take the job I may be taking a trip there to see them. I'll let you know and if possible maybe we can get together. It will be some months, at least until scool is out because he is a teacher.

Dawn, I hope you have a ball on your trip and I hope the weather will be great all the way. I envy your being able going on the trip, but I'm glad for you that you will be going. you stop and rest over a whole bunch of times so
    you won't come back sick.

    Take care all, Jo

    hey everyone ,

nice to see so many posts, i was missing all you guys .

herman is the universal starter, chris. once herman is done, then you use him in recipes that you find that call for, like say, "1 cup of herman starter" or "1 cup of herman". i would say if you're a savory girl to cut the amount of sugar in every step by half. you might have to experiment a little bit. i don't know anything about bread-making yeast and the difference between regular yeast. i think herman will make a GREAT drain cleaner, cause it will eat all the rotted junk in any drain you throw it down .

julia, i'm sorry to hear you're having those probs with your breathing due to the pollen. i think i read that where you live is one of the states with the highest pollen counts. i hope once things are done blooming that your breathing will get easier. i may be wrong, but i don't think cholesterol pills would do much for calcium build-up in your aorta. cholesterol is a kind of fat that narrows your arteries. calcium is a mineral. i think when calcium builds up that it makes that part of the aorta harder to expand when you breathe and for blood to flow through. so, i would maybe go to a cardiologist and ask what they do for calcium deposits. if your cholesterol has been good this long, i don't know why it would suddenly go bad .

dawn, hope you have a ball in 'nawleans. have a beignet and tell me what it tastes like...i live for descriptions like this .

sher, i hope this doctor turns out to know at LEAST as much as you do on cfs. i thought you had gone to the eye doctor and were getting some tests there, too...or maybe that was a while back. did you find out anything from those? okay...a black purse is a black purse is a black purse. if it's for evening events, you just need it big enough for essentials. don't obsess, it's not like it's a pair of shoes .

pati, our temps are back in the 40's today! yesterday was a fluke...lol. steady 50's sound nice .

we all want to know if any of you start making herman, so we can learn .

((((hugs to all)))) for sharing and caring,
    jeannie

Well, y'all know I can't let y'all have the last word. Pati, what is GS?? Good Stuff? Granny's Stuff? Yes, that kid is a fast learner. Now we are down to the Stuff that has some value. I'll swap this for that piece of Fenton? Yeah, he is catching on. He told me today that when I go to heaven he gets my china cabinets and everything in them. they were full already. I'm going to have to buy another china cabinet.

Pati, any color that striks my fancy. Is there a particular color that is nicer than others? He brought me a cranberry basket that is beautiful. I have a green basket and a ment green candy dish . It's tall. I have a beautiful blue colored thing but the pattern is very pretty. Write me and give me some hints on them, ok?

I told him I wasn't ready to go anywhere just yet. lol

Jeannie, I tend to agree with you about the Cardiologist. I don't want any more exrays or other stuff they do. That is my only drawback. What you said is what I read, more or less. I just hate worring with any more ailments!!

Well, I'm exhausted and need to go lay down. I've been on this computer all day. Yes, I love seeing all these post. btw, I met a girl named Tiffiny down in a forum near the bottom, can't remember what the name of the Forum. I invited her here and if someone knows about the problems she is having please stop in to welcome. she sounded desperate. I didn't blame her either. After all, that is why we are here, right? Try to help those that need help.

    Love you guys, Julia

look what I get for checking in late here, almost a mini series to read. Suree is good to read it but now I am not sleepy at all. I will forego the breadmaking. Even if I did eat some that was oh so goo at church last time we had a meal. I still have my big containers that I did the fruit cake stuff you had to tend for so long. No telling how much weight I gained from those cakes.

Now I have my bettas in the big containers and as they are enough trouble to keep fed, I will pass. I have not even read my newspapers, they are piling up again and even fed the birds. Sorry to say Donna did not come tongiht again and this makes 3 weeks. well gonna close for now hands are stiff.

The forum where Tiffany posted is Neurological Disorders / Hydrocephalus. Right now her thread is also listed on the Braintalk Homepage.
