Any language that doesn't use our alphabet strikes me as harder to learn than the languages that are in our alphabet, but both Chinese and Japanese, as well as quite a few other languages, have added complications, like depending on intonation for meaning. A language that is read from right to left means another added complication.

Heavily inflected languages like German or Russian are often harder for English-speakers to learn.

Agate, I found German to be guttural sounding and not a pretty language, but I did find it a little easier to pick out a lot of words than French. The French language is a pretty spoken language to me.

Jeanie, what a day you and your friend had. I wonder what that first guy from AAA was thinking. I am glad you got to go to the fair and that you have enjoyed having Kim there with you. Are you going to get the van checked out?

:) I think my backup camera kept staying on and ran the battery down. After sitting awhile it worked. I unplugged the camera so it won't stay on. It started right up several times today so I will wait to take it for a checkup. Jeanie :)

I was just reading on my iPhone and saw an article regarding real estate taxes. Some people are being hit particularly hard because there is a maximum on what can be claimed under mortgage and property taxes on Federal income taxes. This came about due to new tax law that was passed in 2017. People in California, especially around San Francisco are moving to Nevada and some to Florida. (I don't think Florida has state income tax) North Carolina does so all you Yankees stay where you are. New York and Massachusetts also have very high property taxes.

So, found it interesting that people are being hurt because of new tax law passed in 2017.

I'm staying right where I am, Virginia--don't worry. I live in one of 5 states that have no sales tax.

Hebrew is a snap to read, despite different letters, and reading right to left. It pretty much reads exactly how itís spoken.
Japanese is easy to learn to speak, but I didnít try to learn to read it.

I donít like the sound of German, but its intriguing how you have to wait until the en of the sentence to hear the verb.

French and Spanish are beautiful languages...

    Taxes. . . ughhhh!
Thanks to our current president, for the 2019 tax season, there's a new limit: You may deduct up to $10,000 ($5,000 if married filing separately) for a combination of property taxes and either state and local income taxes or sales taxes. You might be able to deduct property and real estate taxes you pay on your: Primary home

The president supposedly gave Americans a tax cut, but immediately took it away with his "changes" and eliminations on income tax deductions.
Sales tax varies by county and some cities. Los Angeles has the highest rates. See here:

It's no wonder there are so many homeless now.

Speaking of homeless, I came across this podcast about addressing the problem. They discuss homelessness in my area with a local newspaper editor 15 minutes into the podcast. Interesting podcast as we look for ways to address the problem.

Thanks agate. I don't know why that didn't work. I copy and pasted like I always do.
The "Thanks" isn't showing when I hit it either.
