Please help me to find a good hearing aid specialist

I am a single mom of a 12 years boy who has hearing problems. His left ear is not functioning properly compared to the right ear. I don’t know when the issue started exactly but I think it all started in the last year when he started to complain that his teachers are not loud enough. I thought he was just being lazy in the classroom. Anyway, his scores were not as good as it used to be. His hearing disability has really affected his performance at school. I am really worried now.

I want to take him to someone who is an expert in hearing loss and has some experience with treating school going kids. When I searched on the internet, I found this. But, I don't know whether to go to them or not since I have no experience with them.

If any of you guys know about them, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.
    Rachel.

    Welcome to BrainTalk, Rachel!

What prevents you from making an appointment and visiting this audiologist? You can also go to an ear, nose and throat doctor (otolaryngologist), if you want to check out any possible physical problems with your son.

Your experience with any professional will be different from anyone else. There would have to be someone from Toronto, Canada, who has a son that has hearing problems and went to this specific doctor to be able to give an opinion on your choice. The odds are great there aren't.

Please make an appointment for your son as soon as possible. A new school year is starting and the longer you wait to see someone, the more behind your son will be in his learning.

      Thank you for replying.
I am really worried because I want to take him to someone who has already worked with kids his age. I had gone to someone in my locality earlier, but the experience was unsatisfactory. I don't want to take chances this time.

The hearing aid specialist in Toronto, the one I am talking about is Hearing Solution CA. I thought someone here will have some previous experience with them, or at least I suggest me few good ENT professional in and around Toronto.

      Rachel.

My daughter had hearing problems when she was about 7. She was still in the care of a pediatrician, and I asked that doctor to recommend an otolaryngologist, who was excellent.

I wouldn't go to an audiologist without going to an ENT doctor (otolaryngologist) first. There might be treatable medical problems, and audiologists just aren't as trained as an MD who specializes in ear/nose/throat.

If you have a primary care doctor, that person can refer you to an ENT doctor, I'm pretty sure, though the procedure might be different in Canada.

Moderator and agate: I believe she is talking about the city of Toronto, California not the one in Canada. That should be a help.

          Best to you all,

She's in Canada according to her Profile, and the Website for the audiologists that she mentions is in Canada. The URL ends in .ca, which is Canada.

There may be some confusion because she said she was "in CA," and CA is the standard abbreviation for California--?

                ((((((Rachel)))))) ~

I noticed that you posted in one of my threads on the Child Neurology forum, and I missed welcoming you there. I also noticed today that you have not returned to BrainTalk in 10 days. I hope you haven't given up on us.

As far as I know, we don't have many Canadians posting here these days. We do have one active member, who is Canadian, but she doesn't live near Toronto. You might try searching for reviews of Hearing Solution on line. I hope you find a compassionate and thorough ENT to help your son.

ANN ~ I didn't even know that there was a Toronto, California, until I looked it up! I've probably driven through that town many decades ago on my way to Lake Arrowhead. Learn something new every day!

I hope you'll return someday, Rachel, and let us know how your son and you are.

                Love & Light,

Thank you, everyone, for the love, support and help. You people are awesome. So, how can I forget to update you guys! So, here we go.
I went to the hearing specialist I mentioned earlier in the post. I got some good feedback about them on some other forums and I made a decision to visit them. It seems like he has to get a hearing aid to improve his hearing. We were away for a week and we will get it done once we are back.
                  Sorry for the late reply.
                  Have a nice day everyone.
