    Default Computer alert!

Last Sunday my brother told me about something that was going around hitting computers. You can just be on your computer and all of a sudden a box will pop up and it will tell you things like your IP address has been wrongfully used, etc. Your computer will be completely locked up. It gives a number to call and says it is Microsoft. It is not. He clicked on it and it cost him $125.00.

Saturday I was on mine and the box came up on mine. He had told me if need be to turn the computer off manually if it happened to me. I quickly hit the x button in the top right hand corner and was able to get back to my start page and I turned it off from there. I left it off for a long time, but it was still there. Finally, I left it off overnight and it went away. I could get on yesterday and right now I can get in fine. I was glad he had told me.

He said yesterday it had hit him twice this week, but he quickly turned his computer off for a long time. I will just turn mine off again if it hits me again.

Good to know. My aunt got scammed by something like this. To make the pop up go away she cleared the entire "History" off the internet browser after restarting.

funnylegs, that's the same as clearing the cache, isn't it? I do that about once a week just to keep things going smoothly. It makes a huge difference.

Hmm not sure but I would definitely keep clearing that out regardless if I were you.
