Mexico what a trip out with the old - in with the new dentures

Well, I did it. Went to Mexico. got put out and had 10 teeth removed. Took one barrel of Versaid, and the 2.5 barrels of fentenal (i think he used three) and I don't remember ANYTHING. The anesthesiologist was totally cool, said I might have to be intubated ( I was) two hours to wake up totally - and now i have to heal my gums due to poor coagulation, said I lost a pint of blood. - otherwise would have gotten immediate dentures - i have them and will go back when i am totally healed. My dentist/oral surgeon trained at Harvard, I had several references from people who have used him he is excellent. all in all a trip to remember. If you consider this, be careful. get references from people you know. If your procedure lasts into the night, be sure you have an escort to the US border - Aldegonenes is a safe town but at night, coming off anesthesia, you could be an easy target. do NOT try to cross back into the us W/O papers - a passport, or a pass-card. IF you have a ARIZONA DL. and Birth certificate, they may let you back in - or they may detain you - I had my pass card. total cost was $1800. plus expenses 3-5 hundred dollors or about a THIRD of what I would have paid her and I got several estimates starting at 6k. I paid an extra $600. to be put to sleep included in the $1800. otherwise it would only be $1200. My teeth were poisoning me. i feel much better am gaining weight since it hurt to eat, now, lots of chopped up meat over rice.refried beans, and a couple of ensure a day. If anyone needs more info, pm me or post here as I am back.
    Blessings

Alex, it is great to come hear and read about good news from a CPer. It has to be a relief for you and it is clear with the weight gain your body likes it. How long until you will be using the dentures? Enjoy the new teeth when you get them and enjoy eating once again.

hi Mark - yes it was quite the adventure. I actually have the new new dentures but they could not be placed, they were supposed to be immediate but i bled to much for them to put them in - I was told I lost a pint of blood and that it took two hours for me to totally wake up. So, now I get to wait until my gums heal , another month or so, I had ten teeth taken out, I am probably be going to have to go to a dentist here as I have some pain and sutures coming out, all normal I am told and then it'ts Back to mexico for a reline or perhaps a new set - either way another $160. plus expenses - still, no complaints, this whole ordeal will still be less then half if i had it done here. eating is tough, have to cut everything up and I have it wit rice or re-fried beans and of course Ensure (generic). so, all in all ,a good deal, would I do it again, absolutely. the teeth i had were poisoning me and the weight gain, is not going to my gut so i was probably malnourished since i didn't want to eat due to pain. Thank god for a Rainey day, the doc. in mexico only gave me anti-inflamatories and the VA gave me Tylenol#3 SOS. Good to hear from you, I was not posting as I had that issue, My main (nerve center computer) crashed totally HD died - lesson learned - back up,back-up-back-up.Hope this finds you using your inversion table and it helping you. My pain has actully gone down a mite bit - any at all is nice. Hope you had a good holiday and a happy new yer and that this finds you and yours well.

Alex, I use my inversion table a couple times a day and I can feel the effect moving up my spine as the muscle get stretched. I don't know how much longer it will be before I start using it completely vertical. It was strange as I could feel the pain and tightness in my back with each period the pain and tightness would move up one or two levels. Right now I am around my T3 so I probably will start being completely inverted in another week or so.

I read where you still couldn't use the dentures yet. I was talking more about how it will feel once your gums heal and the dentures get fitted so you can eat without any real restrictions. Between the infection from your teeth and the pain you had to be malnourished to some extent. I hope your bleeding stops soon and the sutures come out so you don't have to wait too many more weeks to have your new chompers in place. Speaking of going to Mexico you have to wonder why we don't look at why the cost are so much less but between gov't regulations and collusion between the gov't and insurance companies in passing Obamacare it is now wonder our cost are so much. I don't know if we are ever going to be able to roll back our gov't some to reduce the cost of care in this country. Unfortunately the current climate is more and more regulations putting up roadblocks causing prices to keep climbing.

Heal up and get back to eating the food you want to eat.

Glad to hear your got your teeth done Alex. I lost both uppers and lowers due to softening and breakage. I found a good doc not too far from me, 1200.00 for the dentures but 2,400.00 to be put out to remove seven teeth. Daughter paid for the surgery. It still took a couple of months to be able to stuff like apples and such.

            ((((((Alex)))))) ~

So glad that you finally had your teeth removed, and I'm happy for you that all went well. A pint of blood is a lot to lose. Were you on blood thinners? Or do you have anemia? Your blood will recalibrate in time, and your hemoglobin should be okay.

If you have a blender, you can puree your food until you get your dentures fitted. And smoothies are a good way to get your fruits and veggies. Great news that you're gaining weight.

Oral health is crucial to systemic health, so I know (based on my experience) you must be feeling relieved and healthier with those teeth gone.

Hope you get a great fit on your dentures!

            Love & Light,

Dear Alex -- Hello Stranger! I realize that I am the one that's been gone, and not you, but, whatever! So I get to BT, sign in, find the CP Forum, and, lo and behold, the first thing I see is this thread by you!! I gather that you were in distress due to bad teeth, and so glad to hear that you have found a solution that seems to be ideal for you, good for you! Ironically, my dh had all of his teeth pulled way back in Jan 2009, and hasn't had any teeth since . His teeth were beyond repair after decades of taking certain meds for his psych dx (Bipolar). He had gotten a pair of dentures, but his gag reflex kept him from relly getting used to wearing them. Then, of course, he lost them in 2011 in our house fire, and spent 2011 more in the hospital than not. First the 3rd degree burns, etc, and then he had a breakdown in June of that year, a scary manic-type episode, and they didn't release him for about 3 months. Needless to say, at that point, teeth weren't too high on his priority list. It's amazing to me how much he can really eat without teeth! We've talked about trying to get him a new set of dentures, but it would entail implants to secure the dentures in place, and he's been told that he doesn't have very much bone in his gums to even get that type of setup. I wonder if what you had done could be a possibility for him, and how did you find out about the place you went to??

Anyway, glad to read some good news from you and hoping you have the dentures put in place soon!

Smiling Angel - How wonderful to hear from you. It has been the experience. I unfortunately have the exact opposite problem - too much bone in the lower jaw so they want to do bone surgery, May or may not happen - Dentist says that a LOT of people use ony the top - perhaps this is something that could be discussed with your dh's dentist. Eating, Due to bleeding issues, (Low Platelet count) They could not place the immediate dentures so I too have no teeth. It is amazing what you can eat if you put your mind to it. I get my top plate tomorrow but my bottoms have to wait till they are totally healed and then what to do about the bone. I had general Anesthesia for the extraction's (10) - so remember nothing except they told me I lost a pint of blood and took two hours to come out of anesthesia - when I first saw the doc' and anesthesiologist's face, they were both white as ghosts so there may have been difficulties - they had to go all the way and intubate me to get things done. the best part was cost. we live in Arizona so it was only three - four hours to Mexico The price was right too - $1200. For the immediate dentures and $600. for the General Anesthesia. I wish i could of given better advice on your DH'S teeth, but that is I have - just try maybe a top pate. as far as finding the doctor, I had sever friends who had work done by him and recommended him highly, He went to Dental School but is taking CEU's at Harvard andI googled him - all good. I can shoot you the URL if you like, he is a very nice man.
Smiling Angel, So very nice to hear from you, thank you for your concern and I hope this finds you and your's as well as can be.
