I'm physically disabled, on SSI, and, not working;...................................

A friend says, I should be able to qualify for SSDI. Does anyone know what I need to do, so, hopefully, I might be able to get it??

    Thanks!!

Hi Phyllis from what I see if you have worked 5 out of the last 10 years you can get SSDI. For this there is no investigation into your case. For SSI there is whats called a means test to investigate your health records to make a determination. That is what I applied for. To get the ball rolling you can do an online application and then someone will contact you. Based on your disability someone can do a phone interview with you if you are unable to get to them. After that I would get a lawyer. There are a huge amount of lawyers that advertise for no fee unless you win. I fought for over 9 years before I was accepted but I am pretty sure it wouldn't take that long for you. Michigan has been shipping their cases out to other states but I believe we are about caught up now lol. I got a local judge and was in and out in no time. Anyway once you have your hearing the rest of the process doesn't take long unless you are getting back a large back pay disability. Then they have to rebuild your case before you get any money. My lawyer is taking 25%. in the whole amount of things it didnt seem much.

      Chris, thanks!!

I guess, I have my answer, then, since, I've been on SSI for the past, 10 years and haven't worked. Not sure, why, the person thought,
      I'd be eligible???

Again, thanks for all of the info.!!

You just have to get the Application kit from the State and apply Get the medical Proof you need and hope but if its denyed keep trying SSI Canadian PRovincial and Federal Pensions for Disability Are much the same . I had a 3 years Fight to get mine . Many cases are quick some are realy hard to finalize .
Good luck . I just finised a 34 years of Canada PEnsion Disability and NOW retired on the Old age Pension that was easy to set up . The Money is livable but has no fun time .

In order to qualify for SSDI you need to have worked at a job in which you paid FICA taxes for 5 out of the last 10 years. Do you have that work history?
