    Reliving Car Accidents

I had a car accident in early December when a truck was blocking my 11 miles of two-lane back road. I came over a very small rise & there it was -- TRUCK! I did a 180 and spun into the ditch, still travelling backwards. I briefly popped out of my body w/ the thought "I guess this must be like when you die in a car accident -- it wouldn't be that bad". But my brain was sloshing around my skull & I was having trouble connecting w/ the real world. I just followed the bad trucker's instructions and got the car out of the ditch & on to my GP appointment.

    I HATE flatbed trucks now!

So I'm behind another F*** Truck in the starting rain last week in traffic when he rear-ends another small car. He fishtailed a bit at first, and so did I, but I wasn't that close behind him. FLASHBACK TIME! Next thing I know, he's gunning it in reverse, almost hitting me, & running for the hills! I sat there stunned for a minute in the middle of the intersection, & then decided it would be a good thing if I moved, so I pulled into a Wendy's down the block & called 911. The smallish car he'd rear-ended had a smashed-in hatchback area as well as a popped front end w/ smoke coming out of the engine.

I HATE flatbed trucks even more now. I get the creeps every time there's one in front of me on the road. I had a bad time driving home after this most recent incident & didn't want to drive for quite a few days. Maybe I'll just stay home.

    sher ,

i can understand your anxiety about flatbed trucks now.

i'm pretty sure this will lessen over time. i haven't seen many flatbed trucks here in michigan. i do hate it when i'm in a car and the driver is behind one of those car-carrying trucks. i just keep thinking, "what if one of those cars is loose"? i hope when you see a flatbed truck, you can avoid it.

i don't think staying home is really the answer. i guess you have to chalk it up to coincidence?

i think you'll be fine soon!

Thanks, Jeannie, for your words of encouragement.

I must have been in quite a state when I wrote my post because I actually meant PICKUP TRUCK! You know, the everyday kind that all my neighbors have at least one of so they can haul firewood or small boats or whatever rural folks stick in the back or tow behind them. They are Everywhere around here -- like I moved to a different planet than suburban Philly. So my "F*** Truck" saying above is really a shortened form of "Oh F***! It's a pickup truck!" They constiute every second or third vehicle out here in the boonies. The things you'd never consider before making a major move...

          SHER!

okay! i hate those frikking pick-up trucks, TOO! my ex was coming home from work, takes the exit where there are no lights, no open businesses and questionable people at night. stops at the light. an old pick-up truck is in front of him. all of a sudden it backs-up...like wtf? rams the car and zooms outta there! very weird.

there is another exit, 1/4 of a mile up...bright lights, a gas station on each corner and always more than one car around.

so ex STILL takes that spooky exit...not saying anything more .

Fer sure! Old pick-ups are way worse than new ones because the drivers don't even care what happens to them, plus they know their bumpers are likely higher than yours! It's like bumper cars at the amusement park.

I tried to talk my father into getting one in his senior years because I just know he always lusted after having one. He inherited my sister's car when she had a baby & the car seat would not fit in w/ only two doors, & that car was not made for his family handyman needs. Skimpy trunk, no accessible interior room. He always wanted to borrow my hatchback b/c the rear seats went down & you could fit a whole lot of whatever in. I wish he had indulged himself w/ a beat-up secondhand truck & had some fun! God knows he deserved it after putting up w/ my mother for life. One of my old neighbors had one w/ no current license plate [it would never pass] b/c she only ever drove it 2 blocks to the boat ramp & back inside our community.

Come to think of it, I should get a pickup just so I can give the other pickup drivers the evil eye. You don't scare ME! Take THAT!

granddaughter will probably get a truck. That will make it easier for her to haul around her horses and the trailer. Makes sense to me. Now you women have just had bad luck with trucks, I can tell. I hope you never have any more trouble but I know surely I don't have to tell you to watch out for cars as well.

After driving a van for years, I find them truly frightening to be inside one or on road opposite one. Those suckers sure pick up the wind and are scary moving all around the highwat when really windy. And I outta know as I have been driving during storms a lot of times. I finally gave it away to a boy that worked with hubby. He was always talking about how he helped her and all hauling wheelchair around in the back of his pickup truck.

I felt sorry for her and said to the boy take it home for mother. Well when I met his mother, she had s young mom herself that drove her around anyway in a nice car. yep and she was walking herself. Not in wheelchair. Hh highly exaggerated is what I thought. Anyway she later sold it herself. Now why didn't I think of that. Oh well, I had good intentions, so not my fault and a gift is a gift. After that what they do with it is theirs anyway. I did get a thank you card with a nice heart shape over an i. in her name. The boy was suppose to pay back money hubby gave him for tires even so I didn't feel like such a dummy for feeling like they needed help all alone. Hubby is a caring person and I wouldn't have it any other way..

It didn't put us in poor house and I hope we'd do it again if we felt like it was needed again. I realise it wasn't much of a ned now but it could have been far worse so better to be safe and help rather than wish you'd done something later on if it was all really bad like it sounded.

Talking about ptsd - it was way back in 2003 and I started getting phone calls left and right from my step-daughters friends saying there was a back accident close by and they just KNEW Andrea was in it. After I just stopped returning to the phone to answer it and just ran out the door. On the corner the was a mass of people and a bashed in small toyota in the middle of the road. They were using the jaws of life to cut the girl free and had a yellow wrap around her from head to toe. Well, my husband had just driven up to the store for milk and came driving up on this at the same time - just as the helicopter was landing. He recognized the license plate, saw the jaws of life and yellow wrap and thought he was watching his baby girl (she was 18) dead being removed from her car. To this day he still wakes from nightmares. She had been t-boned by a 3 ton truck. He was in the wrong and she got over one million dollars. She was in ICU for 40 days and no one had a clue if she would make it again. Yea, talk about ptsd.
