    Chain Limericks

    What is a Limerick?

To be a Limerick, a verse MUST have:

    Five lines

The metric feet MUST be anapests ( da da DUM ) although the leading foot of each line may be an iamb ( da DUM) and the last foot of each line may have a trailing unaccented syllable ( da da DUM da). The classic Limerick is consistent in the use of iambs and trailing unaccented syllables, but this is not mandatory in recreational Limericks.

Lines one, two, and five MUST rhyme

Lines three and four MUST rhyme

A good Limerick will have a clever, unanticipated punch line as line five

A good Limerick will not be insipid or pointless

A good Limerick often has puns, word play, eccentric spelling, or some other witty feature

i'll start with a limerick that was started in the epilepsy forum before the forum was updated. each person writes the next line in the limerick, following the rules. the person who writes the last line of the limerick and thus finishes it, will also start the first line of the next limerick. try to follow the rules of the limerick, but don't worry if you're not perfect. the point is to have FUN!

    here is a previous limerick:

    While sneaking around Godrick's Hollow
We found a place to lazily wallow
    As we started to cuddle
    We rolled into a puddle
The mud obscured what was to follow.

as you can see, line's 1, 2 and 5 rhyme and lines 3 and 4 rhyme. the limerick is a tad naughty, as some limerick's are.

my next post will be the limerick we left off with.

But his breath, it was moldin'

Yikes, does THAT work even if it's a tad longer?
And I only have to add one line and not figure out the punch?
And to think you waited 4 1/2 months for that...

I am officially updating the limerick so it's in its proper form for adding the last line, and then the proud finisher gets to start the first line of the new one.

            Hey, great finish line!

And on to the new one --

There once was a hooker named Trixie
Who lurked in the deep swamps of Dixie

PS And with that line I've become "Distinguished"!

So sorry, I just couldn't resist! That town's name has been swirling 'round my head since I saw the "Trixie" rhyme.

                OK, the new one --

                And... take it awaaay!

Ay yi yi! :ambivalence: "Gem femme" rhymes with "adorn 'em"?
I gots to buy you a rhyming dictionary, woman! Not that I know where mine is at the moment.

                        How about some suggestions?

                        Hot shoes, never scorn 'em

With a lust close to p*rn, um [wrap to next line]

Great fit not to corn 'em

With new styles, haven't worn 'em

                        Additional rhymes:

Horn, born, torn, ~conform, mourn, morn, torn, warn
You could add an "ing" or "in'" before the "'em" [them]

Gotta shuck and jive with 'em! Wipe the dance floor with 'em!

i checked on google and gem, femme (fem) em, them all rhyme. how are you pronouncing it? okay, i see...you are treating adorn 'em as one word, where as i was just rhyming with the last word, which is 'em.

Almost OK. I think you need another syllable in there, but I'm a real stickler. Maybe a short word before the "vintage".

WHERE can I find a real thesaurus online? I can't find my real one, still MIA in some unopened book box, and what I've come across on the net has been sub-par. Still, I like fondling the paper pages, flipping them around till I chance upon the exact right word.
