Smile Yes, Dairy---& High Oxalate Foods

Try increasing water intake, B6, probiotics, calcium and magnesium. Try and reduce your carbS, so maybe try a high protein-low carb diet for a bit and see what happens. Also, watch your vitamin C intake!!! Case in point---last January my doc gave me around 8 grams of vit C & some magnesium ( IV ) after I just had 2 mercury fillings removed. It was a good thing that my wife came with me because I became so, so weak, I had a very, very hard time walking and getting into the car. By the time we got home, I started to regain some strength. I am pretty sure it was the vitamin C as it is a catalyst to making oxalates in the body. My doc had then suggested that it COULD have been the mercury removal. The 4 LATER sessions of mercury removal WITHOUT the vit C IV were just fine--no increased weakness. Barque----remember---NO DAIRY----GOOD LUCK

They are premeasured one serving so it keeps the pigging out down. They are just as tasty and good as regular pasta.

Default Low Carb

We have quite a few people in remission now - including me - since I got a flare of HS in December 2009 from a nut allergy & then no rice... long story...

What I really wanted to post is that we are finding that to put the HS into remission you have to go gluten free & dairy free AND omit the following - all grains, legumes, white potatoes and most sugar. THEN when you are off the gluten and dairy it seems that if you have other food intolerances that they will cause you HS pain & you will be able to tell what they are. IMO, When you are eating the gluten and dairy your body is too overloaded to react to other individual foods.

THEN, when you are in remission you can see what you can add back to your diet like white potatoes, rice, cornmeal & other gluten free grains and legumes. What we have found out is that some of us can tolerate some of those foods occasionally. It seems that if we have a starchy carb once we might be okay but eat carbs several times in a row - not good.

I am mostly Paleo & never could eat white potatoes because of an allergy. My HS trigger foods (other than gluten & dairy) are rice, nuts, chocolate & cheese. I might can cheat & have a GF ice cream rarely but I cannot cheat on cheese - ever. I am also caffeine free & only drink water or 100% welch's grape juice - diluted. I know of another person that reacts to pretty much the same foods that I do & she had to give up caffeine. She can eat nuts.

Unfortunately, it seems that none of us can eat dairy & of course it goes without saying that we totally cannot tolerate gluten or gluten cross contamination. Also, if you have HS it is very important to have GF shampoo & personal care products. & if you break out on your back with HS whilte still on the diet - you should not be using cream rinse & letting it run down your back.

We seem to all tolerate most all fruits, veggies, meats, & seafood & for most nuts.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NI-tis sup-u-ra-TI-va) is a chronic skin inflammation marked by the presence of blackheads and one or more red, tender bumps (lesions). The lesions often enlarge, break open and drain pus. Scarring may result after several recurrences.

The Paleo diet is being adopted by some people that have HS and they are going into remission. I have had a couple of people from this forum PM me for details to the diet.

One thing is that yes, we do best on Paleo but we also can eat sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes do not raise your blood sugar or seem to bother anyone that I know that has HS. I do recommend them but not to be eaten everyday. Okay if you occasionally have them a couple of days in a row but you really need to have a more varied diet where you do not eat sweet potatoes every day. If you are just transitioning to the Paleo diet give yourself a little break and know that your eating habits will slowly change and you will not want to eat them as often.

As a treat sweet potatoes are great cut french fry style & can be fried in leftover bacon grease.

I will also mention for the new people on Paleo that you should not be consuming any hydrogenated oils. So that would be no hydrogentated vegetable oils.

Good point! I fix sweet potatoes/yams occasionally - as "fries" baked with coconut oil or olive oil or roasted then mashed with cooked cauliflower to make a mashed "potato" I can then serve beef or chicken over. I have eliminated carbohydrates from our diet, so cooking gluten-free seems easy in comparison Without potatoes or rice or corn, you are forced to eat more vegetables!
