Smile Enterolab And Vit D Results

Hello everyone. First, a tip of the hat goes to OZZ ( since she posted her symptoms on the multifocal motor neuropathy forum in such detail ), and since , without that post, I doubt if I would have put two and two together, even after asking my family doctor 3 years ago about celiac disease. I have been to 6 different neurologists, four of which are ALS specialists. I have had 7 EMGs and three sessions ( of 2 days each ) of IVIG treatments, all in a space of 5 years. Another special thanks to Seeker, who I think, posted a thread wondering about ALS and celiac disease. Also a thanks to all of you on this forum and to the folks on the MMN forum also. Oh yes, THE RESULTS. On Dec 31, 2008, ( through Enterolabs ), I found out I had double genes of HLA-DQ 1,1 and my gluten sensitivity result ( just in ) is 68 ( average results of their patients are 45 and anything below 10 is considered negative ). My vitamin D taken at the end of October 2008, was 38 ( better than 16-taken in the winter of 07 ). My last result from Grassroots ( taken on Jan 19, 2009 ) was 49. Since Dec 15, 2008, I have been taking 8000 IU of Vit D3 and now I am taking 4000 IU of D3, probably till the end of April, and then go down to 1000 IU till October.

Great update.

From my point of view it is like an epidemic of gluten sensitivity, allergies, autoimmune problems happening... not because of this board, of course, but just looking around at my family and friends!!

Smile I Still Can't Believe

Hi Naomi. I still can't sink my teeth around the fact that celiac disease can do all that damage ( from birth, in alot of cases ) and creating such a widespread SNOW BALL EFFECT, and at times----INVISIBLY

Well that is fascinating, Can! Before one of the crashes here on Braintalk, a bunch of people posted their Enterolab results, and many of them also had the double HLA DQ1 gene! My son is HLA DQ1, but not double! I am so glad we did the Enterolab testing, because it really confirmed what I had suspected all along - that Ted desperately needed to get gluten out of his diet if he was going to survive childhood and grow up to be a healthy young man.

Good for YOU - and also interesting about the significant improvement in your Vitamin D test results! How do you take 8,000 IU of D? Do you break it down throughout the day? We have an appointment with Ted's ND next week to discuss the second, more comprehensive Vitamin D testing he had done a few days ago, but he has only been taking 1,000 IU a day.

Again, CONGRATS on your results!! I'm sure you're looking forward to a healthier, happier future!

I emailed you privately, but congratulations on moving forward. Forgot to ask in email, have you had recent Calcium tests to see what that is? Apologies if you've posted that recently or if I just forgot. How long have you been GF now?

Smile Hi Karen and Seeker

I have been taking vitamin D every day and since vitamin D 25 ( the inactive form ) has a half life of about 15-20 days, I have read that you can take it every 2 weeks or so ( instead of every day ). If you go to the vitamin forum, there is tons of information on vitamin D. I ordered my vitamin D from IHERB in California. It comes in a bottle of 360 gel caps which contain 2000 IU of vitamin D3 in each gel cap, so I used to take 4 gelcaps in the morning, but now I only take 2 per day and probably will continue to take 4000 IU each day till around the end of April. I had been taking 8000 IU of vit D from mid December till mid January and I think my absorption is alot better now ( before that, it was around 1200 IU, that I used to take ). I also read that taking around 1000 IU of vitamin D forever, will not increase vitamin D in the body and that we are better off taking around 4000 IU ( at least in the winter ). This past summer, I only got sun on my face and arms ( always wear long pants ), maybe for around a total of one hour per week ( three sessions of 20 minutes each ), so I was abit surprised when my vit D came back in the fall at 38. I just started to read the book by Shari Lieberman called THE REAL VITAMIN AND MINERAL BOOK ( 4th edition 2007 ). I still have to read THE GLUTEN CONNECTION.
