I am trying to figure out of the insertion point of the catheter can impact the drainage of CSF?
Input welcomed.

Where a shunt is placed is dependent on subtype of Hydrocephalus, ease of placement and risk. There's possibly other reasons but I think these are the main ones.
E.g. If a particular ventricle is isolated and that is what is causing the Hydrocephalus the shunt will be placed there - this often happens in the fourth ventricle. |

Marijke's was originally at the back of her head, but the NS who took over her care when the orig NS retired said that was a very "old school" place to put it. When we took Marijke in for her second revision in 3 months, the new NS moved it to see if changing the location would lessen the blockages -- Marijke has been surgery-free for 5 years.
